Uniforms, Bloc Parties and the Funk

There was a sense of disappointment as we left the mall.
All of the people looked the same
Wearing their masks of cool and indifference.
Commerce dressed up as rebellion.

Coz we're so handsome and we're so bored.
So entertain us, tell me a joke.
Make it long, make it last.
Make it cruel, just make me laugh.
We can't be hurt, we can't be hurt.

Drink to forget your blues on the weekend,
Think about more things to buy.
The TV taught me how to sulk and love nothing,
And how to grow my hair long.

Coz we're so handsome and we're so bored.
So entertain us, tell me a joke.
Make it long, make it last.
Make it cruel, just make me laugh.
We can't be hurt, we can't be hurt,
We can't be hurt.

So why'd you go picking fights that you'll lose?
(When you have entertainment, when you have things to pass the time?)
Why'd you go thinking thoughts that are above you?
(You can be happy, just play dumb. You can be happy, just play dumb.)
Well I was brave. And unique.
Intelligent. A snowflake.
I could've been a hero.
No one can be trusted over the age of fourteen.
Tattoo our arms, Converse shoes, cynical.
We still do it.
We tell ourselves we're different.
I've gotten so good at lying to myself.
All, all my pain and honour is used up.
All, all, all, all my guns are rusted.

So when you gonna realise those are not your wrongs to right?
Have another line, have another drink.

Uniform.

I am a martyr, I just need a motive.
I am a martyr, I just need a cause.
I'm a believer, I just need a moment.
I'm a believer, I just need a cause.
I'm finding it hard to break the mould.
I'm finding it hard to be alone,
I'm finding it hard to trust myself.
I've got nothing more to say.

Uniform.

There was a sense of disappointment as we left the mall...
All of the people looked the same.

-"Uniform" by Bloc Party
You know that a song is greatly influencial when you find people memorising every single word of the lyrics.
Like I did just then.
I didn't go on some internet website to copy and paste those lyrics.
Nor do I have a copy of "A WEEKEND IN THE CITY" sitting by me.
I purely learnt the song by listening to it until maybe I knew it off by heart. The ear can be a heart as well. So if you see a mistake in the above lyrics, that's because that's how my ear heard it and my brain interpreted it.
"Uniform" is one of the most truest, care-free songs from British band Bloc Party.
In fact, all their songs are so inspiring, controversial, care-free, random, nonsense and true, that I have learnt at least two albums worth of their songs.
I truly love music.
I play classical guitar, drums and vocals.
Savouring music is a tasteful experience.

There are so many more...
You have no idea.
Music is just...so...indescribable when it's good and when it moves you.
Amongst my fine selection, you will see various genres and maybe many that you know.
If you do know many then I applaud you. (Drop a line, maybe you and I will get along just fine...)
You would probably find techno, electronica, trance, drum & bass, trip-hop, R&B, indie, alternative, rock, screamo, dreamo, ska, pro-punk, J-Pop, blues, roots, ballad...
I love staying open to everything and anything in the music world.

I like Bloc Party the most because their songs take on political and social views.
They have excellent guitar riffs and oh-so-dayum-good! choruses.
Check out: Helicopter, Hunting For Witches, Song For Clay (Disappear Here), Where Is Home? and Price Of Gasoline.
Just as a tasting plate...

Anyway, I take pride in artists who want to remain underground.
However, those who are discovered by the mainstream bloodhounds and change the way their music is, I cease to understand.
Bands like Good Charlotte, Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy.
The good days of not being on the mainstream radio channels exist no more.
Why would you change the way you present yourselves, the proud ignorance you carry and the way you play your music? Why?
I fell in love with such uncovered bands for the kicks and quirks they had that Video Hits' musos didn't.
And now they are gone. Faded into society's view of "pop".

Many of the above artists have produced excellent songs.
They are artists who have persevered and live to make great music.
They wrote songs that maybe made me cry.
Made me empathise.
Made me laugh.
Made me think.
Made me want to take a strong and powerful action.
Made me look around.
Made me frown.
Made me dance my pants off.
Made me and my friends scream along.
Made me want to share it with the whole world in a blog.

Music.
Wow.
Music.

Music is a living creature, it can devour one's thoughts, feelings and emotions.
